Reforesting Assam – Golap Konmai Mission’s 5,000-Tree Annual Pledge

The Scale of Impact: 2018–2023
Since its inception in 2018, Golap Konmai Mission has planted 25,000+ native trees across Assam’s Kamrup district, including neem, sal, and teak. Key milestones:
2022–2023: 5,310 trees planted | 82% survival rate due to post-care workshops
Cumulative Impact: 15 acres reforested | 48% increase in local bird populations
Survival-First Approach
Unlike conventional drives, the Mission ensures long-term growth through:
Native Species Focus: Prioritizing climate-resilient trees like Assam’s iconic Hollong (Dipterocarpus macrocarpus).
Adopt-a-Sapling Program: Villages appoint “Tree Guardians” to monitor growth for 2 years.
Monsoon Advantage: 95% plantations done during June–August for natural irrigation.
Financial Backing: ₹2.99 lakh spent on tree plantation activities in FY 2020 (as per Income & Expenditure Account).
Community at the Core
The Mission turns villagers into eco-champions:
Volunteer Engagement: 12 villages participated in 2023 drives.
Livelihood Link: 28 families trained in horticulture development (2019–2023) to grow lemon, guava, and betel nut.
Youth Involvement: School students planted 1,200 saplings in 2022’s “Green Warriors” campaign.
Testimonial:
“We now earn ₹8,000/month from our lemon orchard planted during the 2021 drive.” – Pranab Das, Batahghuli farmer.
Beyond Trees: Building Green Infrastructure
Peace Parks: 3 urban green spaces created (2020–2022) with benches and walking trails.
Anti-Erosion Belts: Bamboo plantations along vulnerable riverbanks in 4 villages.
Seed Bank: 15+ native species preserved for future generations.
